ABOUT WESTIE REHOMING Westie ReHoming was formed by Jacqui and Robert Ferris-Woods, who believe passionately that before a Westie is deemed to be unrehomeable all possible avenues for its rehabilitation should be explored. Robert, Jacqui and family |

Jacqui and Robert have considerable experience of animal charities and welfare both with dogs and horses, and are totally dedicated to the West Highland White Terrier. They have six of their own plus an extended family of long-term rehabilitations. Their understanding and qualification in canine behaviour is an important asset in rehoming, and they have done extensive studies in stress in dogs, and how it affects their health, behaviour, and integration into a new environment. Jacqui has owned the breed for almost forty years having successfully shown and bred them as well as being active in a wide range of canine activities. She holds a diploma in Pet Bereavement Counselling (Hon) and has completed a professional course in Animal Communication. Sadly, Westies are received into ‘rescue’ for a number of reasons e.g. bereavement, dog not liking a new baby, marriage break-up, owner becoming unable to care for the dog, owner’s circumstances changing. The list is endless. All Westies are assessed on arrival and are given appropriate care. We use and encourage the continued use of many complementary therapies together with natural supplements and proper diet alongside allopathic medicine to promote good health in the dogs in our care. |
|
All potential adopters are rigorously home checked by appropriate volunteers to establish their general suitability for ownership of a rescue dog and are then specifically matched to appropriate dogs. We do not have a store of dogs needing homes for adopters to choose! Our priority is to focus on the needs of the dogs, which may not coincide with the wishes of the humans who would like a Westie. Our aim is to ensure that dogs are placed in permanent homes to avoid future trauma and disruption. Some of the dogs coming into our care have experienced neglect and often require extreme patience and special care to regain their trust in humans. Please consider carefully whether you could care for such a dog. Adopters are required to undertake that should they become unable to care for the Westie at any stage the dog will be returned to Westie ReHoming. As a registered charity we require an adoption donation to help towards the cost of running Westie ReHoming. We also ask that you inform us immediately if you have made other arrangements for the dog(s) you are handing in, or have obtained a dog from another source. |

IF I DID NOT HAVE DOGS - I could walk around the garden barefoot in safety.
- My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.
- All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of Dog hair.
- When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like the local boarding kennels.
- When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through dog bodies who beat me there.
- I could sit on the sofa the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.
- I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree - like dog bones, stuffed animals or have to answer to people why I wrap them.
- I would not be on a first name basis with three vets.
- The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: "out", "sit", "come", "no", "stay", and "leave him/her/it ALONE."
- My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.
- My pockets and handbags would not contain things like poop bags, dog treats and an extra leash.
- I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L or W-A-L-K.
- I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.
- I would not look strangely at people who think having their ONE dog ties them down too much.
- I'd look forward to Spring and the melting of the snow instead of dreading "mud season".
- I would not have to answer the question "Why do you have so many dogs?" from people who will never have the joy in their life of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get.
How empty my life would be... |

IF........................ If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never say its not quite as good as his mother's .......then adopt a Westie. If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long as and wherever you want.... .......then adopt a Westie. If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn't care about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies .......then adopt a Westie. If you want someone who is content to get on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores .......then adopt a Westie! If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually .......then adopt a Westie. BUT, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness, .......then adopt a cat! Now be honest, you thought I was going to say ......marry a man, didn't you Jacqui & Robert |
